Dyslexia Matters: Book 1
Effective ways of working with children who struggle to read, write and spell
Author: Frances Adlam
Learning language patterns is a key to literacy, but what sets the Dyslexia Matters series apart is its focus on best practice for teaching these patterns to children with dyslexia. It offers a rich and important foundation of phonemes, phonologic awareness and general phonics knowledge. Designed as a progression of activities, it also has the flexibility to work only on the age-levelled patterns of each book where appropriate
There are three books in the Dyslexia Matters series. Taken together, these offer a rich and important foundation constructed of phonemes, phonologic awareness and general phonics knowledge, covering all the basic sounds for spelling and reading a child needs. The books can be used to teach all children language patterns for reading and spelling, but they also include the knowledge and how to teach it that is best practice for those with dyslexia. So that children can grasp the patterns and connections between phonemes, it is best to work through the books in order.
However, you may find you only need to work according to age-leveled patterns. In that case:
- Book 1 is aimed at 5 to 7 year olds
- Book 2 is aimed at 7 to 9 year olds
- Book 3 is aimed at 9 to 12 year olds
